What Do You Value Most
Which is more important to you, your liberties or your safety?
safety is really important for me, I would give up my liberty to be safe. Look at the people in Russia they give up their freedom once to be safe. They tolerated dictatorship in worst form to have safety in their country. In my point of view you can't/ barely life without being safe
This one is really hard for me. I mean who doesn't want to be safe, but who wants to have no freedom? I guess if it came right down to it, I would probably pick safety. Id rather not be able to do one thing than to have to constantly worry about whether someone is going to come to my house and take me or my family. It also depends on the freedoms taken away? Most freedoms I could do without because I still have the solitude of my mind. Safety would be the best of a terrible situation I guess. I do greatly enjoy my freedoms though
My thought is that i would rather have my saftey than freedom. To me I'd rather be safe than freedom. I would like to do things without having to worry about the consequences. But if it came to a certain point i would have my freedom.
i agree with Cassie... I'd rather have safety, because i don't wanna worry about watching my back and being scared that someone will kill me.... i mean it could still happen, there is no perfect world, but I'd give up some freedom to be less afraid to leave my house... besides since we were born with the set laws in place, we never had some freedoms, you cant miss what you've never had...
When I first read the question, my mind instantly began searching for the answer. It began to look from many different perspectives and angles on the different answers and thus my opinion was projected in my head. Looking around today, I see many citizens taking for granted the many rights that they have been given, rights that several others have never known and will never know. In America, we have an extreme amount of freedoms that most third-world countries do not and though we are not guaranteed our safety, people in other countries live day-to-day just knowing that there will be another problem that comes along and endangers their safety once again. So, looking at this question as someone from one of those third-world countries, I would most likely choose to value my safety, because that is all they have ever known, was dangers. They dont have liberties anyway. But, as a citizen in the U.S., I would most definitely choose my liberties, because that is what I have always known and I appreciate them too much to give them up. -Ashlee R.
As Benjamin Franklin once said "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." To give up ones freedom for the illusion of safety goes against everything our country was formed around.
I can make myself safe through the liberties I already have. If everyone had a gun on them all the time, not very many people would be willing to shoot for fear of being shot. Of course some people would die, but i would be willing to bet the murder rate would go DOWN if this were so. Barring those people classified as "Mentally Unstable" of course. I, personally, Would rather die fighting than go quietly into the gas chambers.
Your liberty to me is more inporten than your safty becaus if you have liberty you also have the right to buy your own defence in form of arms.
Plus if your getting taken you liberty you right to speak freely might be at cost. Which will mean that the free press also might be at cost, and that can mean that the goverment will keep back importen information that might cost your safty in the end.
to me my safety is more important to me because things that have happened to me could more than possibly happen to anyone else. So i would rather be safe rather than have libertys and not klnow what to do to keep my safety like i can right now.
My safety. It is important to me because liberties can be the instigator for unsafe behavior. On the other hand, complete safety will create feelings of resentment toward the caretakers. This is why there is a careful balance of safety and liberties in the government.
I value my liberties more. When it comes down to it, both are really important, but think about it. We all have our time to "go". I could live with that but I couldn't live without my freedoms. I've been to a third world country where it is neither safe, but neither do women have their liberties. I learned from that experience that safety is something you get by being smart, but liberties are not something you should take for granted.
I will go with safety because being safe is the important thing in life and if your life isn't safe, you can not help your liberties at all. Safety is also important because if you are scare and always thing that someone is behind your back to murder you or to give you hard time to enjoy your life, you can't help your liberties because you got your own thing to worry out instead of your liberties.
i would rather be safe because then you wouldn't have to worry about what's going to happen to you all the time. It would be a less worrisome situation rather than being free and wondering how protected you really are from everything.
I would have to say my safety over my freedom.Because I wouldn't want to have to be worried about someone comming after me or anyone else so that's what I think.
Liberty to me is much more important than safety, our founding fathers put liberty before everything, and i believe that liberty is much more important than saftey
After reading everyone's posts and thinking about it for a while I would have to choose liberties over safety. There's no doubt I would definitely want to live a safe life but Nicole mad a good point, you can obtain safety by being smart. You can provide your own safety to an extent, but not your own liberties. You can't really keep yourself safe against international threats but I would still choose liberties despite that.
I would have to say my liberties are more important. If you don't have any freedom, it would feel like your life was being controlled and you wouldn't get a say in anything that happens. Safety is important but if you can't have a say in how your safety is handled then its not worth it. "Give me liberty, or give me death." Plain and simple.
There's a fine line between what you can provide for yourself and others. Safety is definitely the one you have control over. Liberties not so much. I choose my liberties over my safety for sure. Freedom is a privilege not a right. I know you heard that. MSH
I would rather have my liberties. If you give up all your liberties to be safe, are you really safe? I do not think so. Without your liberties the government can do what they please which is not always in the peoples best interest.
I'm gonna have to say liberties, I think if your smart you can protect yourself to a certain point and be safe. If you don't have any freedoms then what do you have?
Safety or my liberties? Is that truly a question? My liberties are everything. I like to do what I want, and not be told how or when I can do it. If it came right down to it, I can protect myself. Being able to have a choice and be who I want to be and not be a puppet to a government power is much more importan to me than "safety".
I would rather have liberty because if you don't have liberties you really are not that safe. If the government takes your liberties then can do whatever they want to you and you wont be very safe
I gotta say both are important to me. Cause i need safety so i can stay safe and alive. But we also need liberty to have some rules that we need to fallow so people can stay safe.
I would rather have liberty because if you don't have liberties you really are not that safe. If the government takes your liberties then can do whatever they want to you and you wont be very safe!!!!! wadddd up witman
i would rather have safety than liberty. i would want my family and i to be safe. i want to be alive and not have the thought in my head that i have to try and protect my family.
i would give up my safety because i would rather be able to do more things and have more things if we are governed right we would be safe and be able to do a lot of things
I value my freedom most. Technically with freedom, you have the right to protect yourself. Since we are a country, and our Constitution provides for the common defense we would also protect our country from outside invaders. While there is still a threat from within the country, it is less likely that someone would try to harm "YOU," individually, than hurt many people, i.e. 9-11. Without freedoms, what would be the purpose of worrying about being safe? You would be doing whatever the government wants anyway, and who's to say that means being safe and able to protect yourself.
In my opinion safety is more important than liberties because even if you have liberties and safety is always a concern, there is always the fear in people that their freedoms might be taken away from them by force. Unless you live in a safe place, liberties can never be promised. You must have safety before liberties.
Which is more important to you, your liberties or your safety? I think in going to pick safety. The reason why is well i guess id rather be safe than to have liberty cause life is more important than liberty. Liberty is where you have freedom to do what you want on the safe side you still going to be alive than killed.
I would have to say that my liberties are more important to me. I think if it came to that point, we can still have some control in being safe, but we can't just give ourselves liberty. I also think that our liberties help keep us safe.
This is a difficult question. I would say liberties would be more important because having to conform would be hell. You can protect yourself if you really need to with guns or what every you can. Being told what to do would suck. And if you die what do you really have to regret after that. So would you rather live where you can live and do thing that you want to do or have someone or group of people tell you how it is and live exactly the way you want them to.
I would want my liberties over my safety because without freedom we would be controlled by government just like in the book we are reading Fahrenheit 451, the government controls everything so they only hear what the government want them to hear. So if we have our liberties then we have the right to protect our selves.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."~Benjamin Franklin. The premise of this statement is that there is a trade-off of liberty for safety. Personally, I think the two go hand in hand. If you have liberty, then you are already guaranteed a certain measure of safety within that. That's one of the major concepts our country was based on. People who would give up their liberty for safety are under a huge illusion. If a government were to demand that you give up your liberties in exchange that they keep you safe, would you really give up your freedom for something that has been promised, but may or may not be provided? History shows us that that had never been the safest bet. Personally, I would never entrust something that important to someone else. I would also like to point out that there's a difference between feeling safe, and actually being safe. And really, without having liberty, how can you truly have life? It's not even going to be your life if you can't make what you want of yourself, or think what you think. An illusion of safety isn't something I would be willing to give up my liberties or my life for.
I would choose my liberties over safety because if you have liberties then safety is promised in those. And with out liberties the government would control everything and anything people do and the people couldnt have any say in it.
I would have to say that I value liberty over safety. I would rather have freedom to do anything I want than be safe and have the government control my life.
I think I would rather have my liberty because then I would have the right to keep myself safe and have guns and whatnot. I think both liberty and safety are important, but I would rather be responsible for taking care of myself and be independent and all that good stuff instead of putting my welfare and safety in someone else's hands.
The obvious choice for me is liberty. If you think about it, do we really have safety right now. We think we are safe but you never know when we could be attacked or start a war. We already have liberty but safety is all a matter of opinion. It is impossible in my opinion to be absolutely safe.
i think that i would rather have liberties because than you would have the right to decide what was right for your safety not have a government tell you what they thought was right
what do i value most? thats a good question. well the thing i value most would be safty only because without safty freedom would be pretty much pointless because people would just kill and hurt others just because there free todo pretty much what ever well you know where im going with this so thats my point of veiw on this topic.
Liberty is a God-given gift that allows one to have the freedom to have opportunity to grow and develop. Safety obtained by giving up liberty by subjecting themselves to a greater power is an illusion because in the long run you are subject to someone else's power and control who can put you in harm's way.
I value my life, family, friends, my food, my games, game systems, my bed, my brother's life, my micro wave, stereo system, my tv, my rights, my clothes, my vcr, my blankets, my guns, my face book account
