To the Polls We Go

Should we pass a compulsory voting law which forces all eligible citizens to participate in the election process?

i don't think so, there are some people who don't like any of the candidates there for don't want to vote for any of them, also some people just don' t want to vote, we shouldn't enforce on others rights to vote or not...

I dont't think we should. Because if we made laws saying that forces everyone to do something it would be chaos. Then we'd just have fights everywhere.

No. To be honest, not every single person that is eligible to vote wants to. Forcing someone to do something that they don't want will lead to rebellion. People should be able to not vote if they don't want to.

Absolutely not. First of all, forcing people to do something (like voting) goes against the principles that our country was based on. Secondly, even though it is everyone's right to vote, there are way too many un-educated people as it is who vote on issues that they know nothing about. If we passed a compulsory voting law, then that would become a bigger problem. People who choose to remain ignorant of the issues and problems in our country should not be forced to vote. They would be doing it for completely the wrong reasons.

Absolutely not. Those who don't have any background of what or who they are voting for do not make effective voters.

that's how it's done in Belgium... But I don't agree with that law. Everyone should have a choice if they want to vote or not

Voting is a privilege and a responsibility that should not be forced on anybody. It should be encouraged though. Things which are forced are not valued. Kind of like school in many ways.

No we shouldn't force people to vote because there are a lot people that don't want to vote!

Gloria said...

I don't think we should. Because not everyone who wants to vote like the candidate so I don't think we should.

sruhs said...

I don't think you should because if they don't vote it is their fault if they don't want a say in who runs our country then that is their fault

Cowan65 said...

We should not force people to vote. Some people just do not want to use their right to vote. Sometimes people do not like any of the candidates.

No i don't think that we should force people to vote, the option is open to everyone and those we choose to vote can.

No we have the right to choose to vote. Being forced to vote would be going against our rights.

Batman says no. The reason is that people have rights.

I believe we should not force citizens to vote even if they are eligible, I believe it is a right to choose whether or not you want to vote if your eligible, not if the government thinks you should, and what if the person voting does not know what each party is saying.

jvanallen said...

i dont think that we should force people to vote and the reason for that is because if they dont know wat they are voting for then theres no reason for them to vote. they need to have some type of knowledge or somewhat be aware of wats going on. they need to know who are the candidates are, who they might vote for, why they are voting, and wat are they voting for. you cant just walk in and randomly vote and not have a knowledge of wat your voting for.

i could see both sides of the issue we should all vote but what would the penalty be if we dont? if we mailed tickets postage would get very expensive and its our right if we wanna choose to vote or not.

MLynn said...

I don't think so. First off the law would be unconstitutional. Secondly, how could you ensure that the results are not skewed? No one in the country has enough time to truly know everything about the election, or the candidates. But, there are people who don't seem to know anything about the country and its governmental policies, or things happening in the political world. These people may vote based on shallow ideas, or may just randomly choose someone to vote for. Another incompetent leader? That is definitely not something our country needs.

Jacee* said...

I dont think everyone should have to vote. Because there is people out there who have no idea what is going on in the world with the government. So if we make everyone vote then some people will just choose one without even knowing what is really going on.

Nicole H said...

No we shouldn't. Even though it is a citizen's duty to vote, not everyone is capable of that. We don't want people voting for the wrong reasons or stupid reasons. It is just better if people vote if they want to.

AleePrettyGirlSwag said...

Should EVERYONE, by law, be required to vote in political elections? Should it be mandatory that everyone of age have a say? My answer, no. Reason being, had a law been passed requiring everyone of legal age to vote in political issues, the world wouldn't be right. Everything would be messed up. HOWEVER, I DO encourage that everyone register to vote so that in cases when something important to you that you become passionate about you're able to put your say in. Reasons why you should vote: it gives the world a more diverse opinion, you have the chance to make a difference in the world and take a stand for what you believe in, and if you don't vote you can't complain. If you don't vote for an intelligent candidate who can think for him/herself, then you obviously deserve to spend the next 4 years with another puppet moron for president. This being said, I don't believe you should HAVE to vote if you choose to not participate in government activities, but when something you don't like happens you would have no right to complain because you had your chance. Voting is a right, a privilege as some such as myself believe. Looking in other countries, they would jump at the chance to take a part in their government. But voting can have many brightsides. So I do encourage all to think about it at the very least.

No, you cannot make people vote if they don't want to, because it's their chose to vote or not.

nsmith1994 said...

No. because not everybody likes to vote because they don't like the people that are running for president. I don't blame them i wouldn't of voted last election even if i could of.

Hem-Das said...

I don't think we should force people to vote because if people want to have a say in who leads their country then they need to take the initiative and vote themselves not someone make them do it.

Major Payne said...

No we should not force people to vote. The uneducated people in this country who doesnt know whats goin on could ruin the whole results by just voting for anyone. If they dont want a say in our government, oh well its their loss.

AAvelar2Fresh said...

Heckkkk no. There would be so much chaos going on. For real? Bro, not everyone in America wants to vote. Forcing them to vote would just cause more problems and all that crap with the people who actually take pride in voting and making the right decision on who leads this country. I know you heard that.

Yankeeclippa said...

Not only is forcing someone to vote going against our countries principles and values, but its not intelligent. Some people just see one ad and they are like oh I will vote for this guy because his ad was cool, and that is what most people do because over 18% of voters admit they are undecided when they vote.

MichaelaY said...

No we shouldnt! Forcing people to vote will only lead to uninterested people filling in bubbles without knowing what exactly it is they are saying yes or no to. Kind of like how teens answer questions on a multiple choice test that they don't know the answer to. And this will cause people getting elected into offices based purely on chance and not by what they could do to help the people of America.

You shouldn't force people to vote some don't care at all and some people have no idea what they are even voting for also some people who don't vote can't read that's why the don't vote so no you should not force people to vote M.S.H WADD UP WITMAN!!!!!!

CassieB326 said...

Why is this question even being asked?! Of course we shouldn't. Some people are not interested, mature, or knowledgeable enough. If we forced everyone to vote then it would defeat the purpose. They wouldn't be voting because of what they believe or feel they vote because they have to so they just pick a name.

Miss.Coon said...

No. If people want to vote, all power to them. And if they don't want to vote then they don't have to! Let them do what they want!

Flores said...

no not everyone wants to vote and if you make them you are violating their freedoms.

If everyone were forced to vote, we would have countless un informed votes that could alter the voting reults for the worse, though it is a right, the people that ont are probably better off not voting so we leave voting to those who actually care about the nations future

Anonymous said...

i thank it is safer to go on line in the voting poll booths
I think it is a choice to vote

Jennifer ;) Lea Traxel said...

no i dont think that we should because voting is a choice you dont have to do it if you dont want to. its not a law that you vote because its your choice on what you want to do. so i say NO.

Anonymous said...

Nope. If there was a law forcing everyone to vote, who knows where we'd be right now. There are sooo many people who don't know anything about the issues and people that we vote on, so making them vote when they don't know what they are voting on would be a mistake. In a way, passing a voting law would kind of take away our right to vote...instead of it being a right and something we can choose to do, it would be just one more of those freedoms that we used to have....

Jamie said...

No, if we made everyone vote then there would be people who don't care that will vote for someone who shouldn't be in charge.

Misser Hamilton said...

No, we shouldn't make people vote because not everyone wants to vote. If they don't care about the outcome of the election then we shouldn't force them to cast a ballot, and like other people said, if someone does not like any of the candidates they shouldn't be forced to vote for one.

Audrey said...

I think that forcing citizens to vote would be ineffective as well as costly and impossible to enforce. The manpower to run the booths would have to be increased by the hundreds. And even if it was possible to increase it by that much, enforcing the law with extenuating circumstances figured in would be impossible. This is all aside from the fact that some people will just not want to vote.

Anonymous said...

well if we do that you can kiss america good bye because then everyone would have to vote and it would happen so fast then we would have another obama and right now its not looking good.

Asger said...

I think that there should be a law that forces every leagel citizen to go and vote, but they should be able to vote blank by not setting a cross at eny of the candidates but at a square where it says i vote blank. If you do not like any of the candidates

AleePrettyGirlSwag said...

I would also just like to add this:

People should not be required to vote because "uneducated voters can be dangerous. They are voting on emotions and simply listen to others and are easily swayed." - Mr. Whisnant

- Ashlee Roeder

sstramel said...

no because some people dont follow the news and campains to make a good vote

SieckWill94 said...

I don't really look at this from a view of "Well we just don't ant to vote..." Is it too much work or something? We need to encourage the idiots who don't think their vote matters not to vote. Every vote counts, and if you don't think so, you are one of the idiots. Period. Secondly, there are a lot of idiots who don't need to water down the electoral college with uninformed votes on issues the voter doesn't understand. People are dumb, and the fact we even have to talk about this proves it.

G.o.D. said...

I am not sure that human nature can actually reach a compulsory voting mindset to actually be able make a full decision whether or not this will work but at the same time we still go to the voting pools maybe not all of us already but in a way every is involved in who is elected and their opinions are present

I don't think we should, because then we would have people voting just because they have to and then their vote really doesn't matter because they don't care.

Big Mac Daddy said...

No. Our founding fathers made the constitution to where voteing is a right not to be forced apon.

The Puppy said...

No, everyone should have the right to vote by what the framers of the constitution intended. Whether you vote or not is your own decision to make.

IAmThaByrdMan said...

Forcing people to vote would drastically change the outcomes of our elections for the worse, the ammount of uninformed voters would cause the vote to be more of a big guessing game.
